English as a Second Language - Grammar
Level I to III
Duration: 4 weeks for each level
These courses are specifically designed to help ESL students improve
their grammar. Revisions of important grammatical points are stressed to improve the students writing skills. The intention of these courses is
to prepare the ESL students for college level essay writing.
Vocabulary Development - Course content includes:
- a review of verb forms and tenses
- nouns and pronouns
- modal expressions and the passive voice
ESL Grammar I - Course content reviewed includes:
- a review of grammatical terminology
- basic word order
- irregular verbs
- auxiliary verbs
- present tenses and other verb tenses
- modal and related auxiliaries
- the passive voice
- nouns and noun modifiers
- Participation in language lab required
ESL Grammar II - Course content includes:
- a review of compound sentence structures
- complex sentence structures based on noun clauses, adjective clauses, and adverb clauses
- use of gerunds and infinitives
- expressions of cause-effect, contrast, and condition.
- Participation in language lab required
ESL Grammar III - Course content includes:
- a review of sentence structure and related issues
- coordination and subordination
- verb forms and tenses
- modal expressions and related issues
- nouns and related issues
- modification
- conditional expression
- an introduction to the editing process.
- Participation in language lab required
